The star running back went off, the quarterback threw three touchdown passes and the defense was terrific. All in a night’s work for Desert Oasis.

The Diamondbacks came out slow but dominated the second half against Valley and cruised to a 42-21 victory.

Christian Vaughn, one of the top running backs in the area, carried the ball 30 times for 230 yards and three touchdowns for the Diamondbacks. Quarterback Tyler Stott threw a trio of touchdown passes, including two to William Jordan, whose catches totaled 105 yards.

On the other side of the ball, Nigel Griffin scooped up a fumble and ran 75 yards for the score, and Ethan Lake and Dawson Featherstone each had a pair of tackles-for-loss.

After trailing 14-12 at halftime, Desert Oasis outscored Valley 30-7 in the second half with the Vikings' only second-half points coming with a minute left in the game.

“We kind of shot ourselves in the foot with a lot of mistakes,” coach Mike Ovens said. “The kids came out in the second half and dominated the line of scrimmage.”
