Suspect who fired at off-duty Vegas cop on I-15 had out-of-state warrant

A suspect accused of shooting at an off-duty Metro Police officer during an apparent road-rage incident Tuesday afternoon in the south valley is an out-of-state fugitive, Clark County Detention Center logs show.

Dwight Delancy, 21, was booked on one count of assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of discharging a gun into an occupied structure, jail logs show. Additionally, he was being held on a fugitive warrant.

The officer, who wasn’t named, called in an emergency at 3:43 p.m. near Blue Diamond Road and Interstate 15, Metro logs show.

Lt. Jose Hernandez said Delancy tried to cut off the officer multiple times on Blue Diamond Road and eventually pulled alongside him and fired rounds in his direction.

It wasn’t clear what the rounds hit, if anything, but investigators recovered at least one spent bullet, Hernandez said Tuesday evening.

The officer followed the shooter onto the freeway, where they encountered snarled traffic and Delancy smashed into a vehicle, Hernandez said. A Nevada Highway Patrol trooper and the officer took Delancy into custody.

The motorist who was struck and Delancy were taken to University Medical Center to be treated for minor injuries, Hernandez said.
