A man wounded in a shootout with Henderson Police on Thursday during a stolen motorcycle investigation was identified as Daniel Thornburg, 42, authorities said.

Thornburg was hospitalized in critical but stable condition, police said Friday. He faces five counts of attempted murder of a protected person and one count each of possession of a stolen firearm and being a felon in possession of a firearm, police said.

Police pulled over a man and a woman on a Suzuki motorcycle about 4 p.m. Thursday in the 300 block of Cannes Street, near Madrid Avenue, Officer Rodrigo Pena said. During the course of the investigation, police determined the motorcycle had been stolen in Boulder City, police said.

After more officers arrived, the couple said the owner of the motorcycle was at a nearby house, Pena said. Officers saw a man, later identified as Thornburg, outside the house before he retreated to the backyard, where the shootout ensued, Pena said.

It wasn’t clear what led to the gunshots or how many officers fired their guns. The investigation was ongoing, Pena said.

It also wasn’t clear if Thornburg was the bike’s owner. The man and woman who were riding it were in police custody, Pena said.
