The Mountain West released its football schedules on Monday, completing UNLV’s slate for the upcoming 2019 season.
The Rebels, who went 5-7 last year, will open the campaign on Aug. 31 with a non-conference home game against Southern Utah, then host Arkansas State in Week 2. They’ll hit the road for the first time to play at Northwestern on Sept. 14, then take a bye week before opening conference play.
UNLV’s first Mountain West game will be a road tilt at Wyoming on Sept. 28. The Rebels will host Boise State on Oct. 5, then play an additional non-conference game when they travel to Vanderbilt on Oct. 12.
The final six games will all be MWC contests, culminating with a road finale at UNR to close out the pivotal season.
Heading into his fifth season at the helm, Tony Sanchez will likely need to make a bowl game in 2019 in order to remain as head coach. The Rebels have compiled a 16-32 record in Sanchez’s first four years, with no postseason appearances.
The schedule doesn’t do the Rebels any favors, as three of UNLV’s four non-conference opponents are coming off bowl seasons (Arkansas State, Northwestern, Vanderbilt). Five of the Rebels’ Mountain West opponents went to bowls last year (Boise State, Fresno State, Hawaii, San Diego State, UNR).
