Man, 65, dies after being struck by SUV in Spring Valley

A man hauling a cart on a roadway near Jones Boulevard and Twain Avenue on Wednesday night was fatally injured when he was struck by an SUV, according to Metro Police.

The 65-year-old Las Vegas resident — who died Thursday at University Medical Center — became the 14th traffic fatality on Metro-patrolled roads this year, police said.

Shortly before 8 p.m., the victim was moving a cart full of tree branches north, near the intersection, when he was hit by a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe, which was traveling in the same direction, police said.

The motorist tried dodging the man by hitting the brakes and steering left, but he couldn’t avoid the impact, police said.

He remained at the scene and did not show signs of impairment, police said.

The investigation was ongoing, police said Friday.
