Democrat wants to update Nevada abortion consent laws

CARSON CITY — A Nevada lawmaker said Monday that she wants to change the state's informed consent laws for abortion.

Nevada Sen. Yvanna Cancela told members of NARAL Pro-Choice Nevada that she's planning to introduce the Trust Nevada Women Act to update antiquated abortion laws.

She called the state's informed consent laws "outdated" and said the bill will bring those statutes in line with 2019 medical standards.

Nevada state law requires physicians to describe the medical procedure to patients and tell them about the emotional and physical impacts. It also requires physicians to tell the woman how far along she is into the pregnancy.
