A man running across a central valley crosswalk this morning was fatally injured when he was struck by a minivan, according to Metro Police.
The 23-year-old motorist had a green light when the pedestrian, 52, ran into his lane, police said.
Officers and medics responded at about 4:30 a.m. to Sahara Avenue and Teddy Drive, west of Interstate 15, and encountered the gravely injured victim, who died at University Medical Center, police said.
An investigation determined that the pedestrian was running south in the crosswalk when he was struck by the westbound 2006 Toyota Sienna, police said.
Impairment was not suspected, police said. This was the 15th fatality investigated in Metro-patrolled roads this year.
