Clark County Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick speaks during a news conference at Symphony Park Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018. Sheriff Joe Lombardo and other officials discussed preparations for New Year’s Eve celebrations in Las Vegas.

Clark County commissioners today selected Marilyn Kirkpatrick as chairwoman, as three candidates who won election in November were sworn into office.

District Court Judge Elizabeth Gonzalez swore in Commissioners Tick Segerblom, Justin Jones and Jim Gibson at today’s meeting.

Segerblom, who represents District E, replaces Chris Giunchigliani, who was termed out after 12 years on the commission. Jones, who represents District F, replaces Susan Brager, who also faced term limits.

Gibson, meanwhile, won election in November after having served since July 2017 to fill the unexpired term of his predecessor.

One vacancy remains on the seven-member commission as Steve Sisolak, who won the governor’s race, was expected to name his replacement in District A after he is sworn into office today.

“I look forward to working with my fellow commissioners and our incredible county employees to make Clark County safe, prosperous and a great place to live,” Segerblom said.

Jones said he was “humbled by the opportunity I have been given to serve with my colleagues” and that he would “work hard every day to make Clark County the very best place to live, work and raise a family.”

Gibson said he was “excited to continue working on the challenges facing Clark County, and I look forward to doing that with our new commission members.”

Commissioners are elected from geographic districts for staggered four-year terms. They oversee unincorporated Clark County — the 14th-largest in the nation — which includes the Las Vegas Strip.
