A man picked on the wrong people Wednesday when he walked up to their vehicle with a fake gun tucked into his waistband and demanded to know what they were doing, according to Metro Police.
It turns out those people were Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo and one of his captains, who were in the area of Swenson Street and Flamingo Road assessing the homeless situation near a wash, police said.
Lombardo and Capt. James LaRochelle were in an unmarked vehicle and not wearing uniforms, police said. As they were parked along the road about 12:35 p.m., the man approached them with “a challenging attitude,” demanding to know what they were up to, police said.
The man’s arms were at his side, and it appeared he had a handgun tucked into his waistband, police said. He was detained until marked patrol units responded to assist, police said.
Curtis Slack, 28, was arrested on an outstanding warrant and taken to the Clark County Detention Center, police said. Police did not release any information about the warrant.
It turned out the object in his waistband was a replica handgun, and no additional charges were filed, police said.
