How can we quickly end the impasse about the federal budget and reopen the entire federal government? Let our political “leaders” personally pay the salaries of the 800,000 furloughed workers out of their own pockets.
An average salary of $20 perhour (it might be higher) times eight hours equals $160 a day (or more).
That’s $128 million a day. Divided equally between the executive branch (the president) and the legislative branch (100 senators and 435 representatives), that’s $64 million a day for President Donald Trump and approximately $120,000 a day for each member of Congress.
Perhaps they could learn to bargain and compromise quickly.
