Police fatally shoot dog at crash scene

Metro Police say they were forced to fatally shoot a dog after it came charging at an officer.

KVVU-TV reports that officers were investigating a fatal traffic crash Saturday near Nellis Boulevard and Sahara Avenue.

They found one person lying next to a vehicle and pronounced the person dead.

Police spokesman Lt. Jeff Clark says officers went to a nearby home to interview residents when a pit bull came out.

Officers first tried to stop the animal with a catch-pole but then it charged at an officer. Another officer shot the dog.

The home where this occurred was unrelated to the victim of the traffic incident, which police believe was a suicide.
