Tubman is a true U.S. hero

Cartoonist Darrin Bell, in the June 6 edition of the Sun, did an excellent job of pointing out the difference between a real leader and the very small-minded person who currently resides in the White House.

Harriet Tubman led people out of slavery in the south to freedom in the north before and during the Civil War. She also worked as a spy for the Union Army, providing intelligence and planning during the Combahee River Raid. She led 150 black soldiers, resulting in the release of more than 750 slaves and causing property damage to several plantations.

Interestingly, Tubman applied for the $25-a-month soldiers' pension, which was lowered to $20 in 1899. She not only deserves to be displayed on the $20 bill, but also deserves the thanks of every right-thinking American for her bravery and service in extremely difficult circumstances.
