Reno police arrest 6 in crackdown on street racing

RENO — Police in Reno say they made six arrests in a crackdown on street racing.

Friday night's operation also resulted in two vehicles involved in speed contests being impounded and 10 warnings.

Police say in a news release that they were responding to concerns about the dangers created by illegal street racing and plan similar operations in the coming months. Ten officers involved in the operation also issued 42 traffic tickets for speeding, reckless driving and other violations related to street racing.

Reno officers were joined by police from the University of Nevada. The enforcement effort was funded by a state grant.

Police say they hope to educate those involved or watching illegal street racing that they can face expensive citations, be arrested and have their vehicle impounded.
