Suspect who rammed officer’s vehicle gets 7 years in prison

A felon who slammed into a law enforcement vehicle with his BMW when authorities showed up at his south valley house will serve more than seven years in prison, the office of the U.S. attorney for the district of Nevada said Tuesday.

Brian Keith Wright — who was out on supervised release when the incident occurred — was put away 92 months in part because of his “flagrant disrespect for the law,” said U.S. Judge Jennifer Dorsey, according to a news release.

A jury in August found Wright, 34, guilty of assault on a federal officer with a dangerous weapon, assault on a federal officer with intent to commit another felony, and assault on a federal officer, officials said.

At about 7:20 p.m. Feb. 10, 2017, an FBI-led task force showed up to a townhouse complex at 6255 W. Arby Ave., near Warm Springs Road and Jones Boulevard, looking for Wright, also known as “Calione,” according to court records.

A federal warrant for his arrest, and a search warrant for his house, was issued after he allegedly violated the condition of his release in a possession of a weapon by a felon case from 2016, officials said.

Authorities knocked on the front door and yelled, “FBI, search warrant,” court records said.

But instead of coming out, the garage opened and a BMW sedan with Wright behind the wheel “abruptly started” and reversed into a law enforcement vehicle that was positioned to block a possible escape, court records said.

Wright kept accelerating upon impact but couldn’t move, and was placed in handcuffs without further incident.

After he leaves prison, Wright will be supervised for another three years.
