Nevada bill aims for reporting of undocumented transfers

CARSON CITY — A Nevada bill seeks to require police departments to tell lawmakers how many undocumented people they transfer to federal authorities.

Almost a dozen Democrats in the state Assembly have signed on in support of the legislation introduced earlier this week. The bill would mandate that all local law enforcement agencies give a yearly report on how many undocumented people they transferred to federal custody and the reason behind the transfers.

It also stipulates that agencies report what crime the undocumented people were arrested for. The reports will not include any identifying information on undocumented people.

Local law enforcement agencies under the bill will outline how many people went to each federal agency.
