A father drove off with his month-old baby this morning, prompting a massive response from authorities, who initially thought the car had been stolen with the child in the back seat, according to Metro Police.

At first, police only knew a mother was loading her car when an unknown person took off with it and the baby, Lt. Chris Holmes said. They soon realized, however, they were dealing with a “domestic situation,” he said.

Police issued an alert about 11:25 a.m. saying they were searching for an older, blue Dodge Charger with temporary plates. The vehicle was taken from the 6500 block of Vegas Drive, just east of Rainbow Boulevard, police said.

Metro, Henderson Police, North Las Vegas Police and Clark County School District Police were all involved in the hunt, Holmes said. They were searching “every street corner, every apartment complex, every store, every nook and cranny,” he said.

The car was recovered not long thereafter in the 6300 block of Lake Mead Boulevard. “We have the child...That was utmost concern for us,” Holmes said.

The baby was uninjured, and the father was taken into custody while detectives determined the circumstances surrounding the situation, Holmes said.
