2 dead in northwest Las Vegas murder-suicide

A man killed his romantic partner and then turned the gun on himself Friday night all while four children were inside the house near Lake Mead and Jones boulevards, according to Metro Police.

Lt. Ray Spencer said the children of the mixed family, all under age 9, were physically unharmed.

The shooting was reported about 7:25 p.m. in the 2100 block of La Sombra Street, Lt. Ken Nogle said.

The couple had been out earlier in the evening, but arrived home where some sort of argument broke out, Spencer said. That dispute turned physical.

The children's grandmother then grabbed an older child and went to the store, Spencer said. When she called back to check on the couple, one of the children answered the phone and said the man and woman had been shot.

She called 911, Spencer said.

Investigators determined the man, who was in his 30s, shot the woman, who was in her 20s, in the head and then turned the gun to his head and pulled the trigger, Spencer said.
