A motorist was killed in a North Las Vegas two-vehicle crash early Saturday that’s being blamed on impairment and reckless driving, according to city police.

The victim, 72, died at the intersection of Aliante Parkway and Broadwing Drive, where the crash was reported about 4:30 a.m., police said.

The motorist who hit the victim’s Ford Escape, Anthony Jefferson Peniston, 46, was arrested on one count each of DUI with death and reckless driving, Las Vegas city jail logs show.

Police said Peniston was speeding north on Aliante in a 2007 Mercedes Benz sedan when he ignored a stop sign and smashed into the compact SUV, which was trying to turn south from Broadwing.

The crash comes days after the Clark County District Attorney’s Office filed rare second-degree murder charges in two recent fatal crashes in which surviving suspects are suspected of driving impaired and recklessly.
