The Desert Pines High football team didn’t know who they were playing in Friday’s Mountain Regional semifinals until hours before kickoff.

On Monday, the Clark County School District determined that Canyon Springs, Desert Pines’ original opponent, would forfeit the season for using an ineligible player. They awarded Arbor View, who lost last week to Canyon Springs, a spot in the semifinals.

After going through appeals and a hearing, it was announced Friday morning that Desert Pines would face Arbor View.

The Jaguars, the only undefeated team in the class 4A, could have easily been distracted. Instead, they were dominant in a 34-7 victory against Arbor View in advancing to next week’s state semifinals.

Arbor View, who beat Desert Pines in last season’s semifinals, was outclassed from the get-go. Deandre Moore had three touchdowns and 94 receiving yards to lead the way.

“Our kids just wanted to play football,” Desert Pines coach Tico Rodriguez said. “They didn’t get caught up in the craziness.”

Darnell Washington had six receptions for 89 yards, and Michael Jackson II had six receptions for 84 yards.
