Man, woman in critical condition after Las Vegas house fire

Updated Friday, Oct. 11, 2019 | 6:44 p.m.

A man and a woman are in critical condition following a central valley house fire this morning, according to Las Vegas Fire & Rescue.

The male victim suffered serious burns, while the woman sustained smoke and heat inhalation, officials said. They were being treated at University Medical Center.

About 9:45 a.m., crews encountered heavy smoke and flames billowing from the front door of the house in the 200 block of View Drive, near Alta Drive and Jones Boulevard, officials said.

The man was found outside with severe burns, and crews had to pull the woman from a bedroom toward the back of the house, officials said. She had superficial burns to her arms.

The extent of the fire prompted additional resources to be dispatched.

Ultimately, the flames were extinguished within 45 minutes, but not before they caused about $75,000 in damage, officials said. The heat caused a backyard tree to burst into flames.

The cause was under investigation, but before making a determination, investigators wanted to speak to the victims, who were not in a condition to speak Friday.

Further details were not provided. The incident comes three days after a woman and her 6-year-old son were killed in a blaze at a house located about 4 driving miles to the southwest.

“This week is fire prevention week, a week when firefighters educate the public on how to prevent from having fires and what to do in case of a fire,” officials said.
