Boulder City beats Sunrise Mountain, returns to postseason

Parker Reynolds rushed and passed for a touchdown today for the Boulder City High football team in a 21-7 victory against visiting Sunrise Mountain in the regular season finale to secure a playoff spot as the 3A Sunrise League’s No. 2 seed.

It’s back-to-back playoff appearances for the Eagles, who last season advanced to the state quarterfinals with a sophomore-dominated lineup. This year, most of the same group finished the regular season with a 7-2 record, 4-1 in league games.

“The kids were comfortable when they took the field tonight. They were confident,” coach Chris Morelli said. “It was do or die. Lose and we are out of the playoffs. But our kids didn’t panic. They were confident.”

Boulder City scored first on Devon Walker’s 12-yard touchdown run. Reynolds added a 1-yard scoring run in the second quarter, and the Eagles were able to drain the clock with a ball-control rushing attack, Morelli said.

“We just marched down the field and held onto the ball as long as we could,” he said.

In the fourth quarter, Reynolds connected with Toby Schaper for a 14-yard touchdown strike. The Boulder City defense did the rest.

“Our defense has been keeping us in games,” Morelli said.
