A motorist suspected of driving impaired Wednesday morning in the central valley veered into wrong-way traffic, smashing head-on into a car and killing its driver, according to Metro Police.

Police subsequently booked Eileen Gonzalez, 33, on one count each of DUI, reckless driving and driving with a revoked license due to a previous DUI, jail logs show. Additionally, Gonzalez was being held on at least one warrant for three separate traffic infractions.

The collision occurred about 10:30 a.m. at Sahara Avenue and Steve Regazio Court, near Jones Boulevard, police said.

Gonzalez’s 2017 Audi A3 was heading east on Sahara when it hit the center median and later entered the Steve Regazio intersection, crossing into wrong-way traffic and ramming a 2017 Hyundai Elantra head-on, police said.

The Elantra spun and crashed into an SUV, police said. The Audi hit a fourth vehicle.

The Elantra’s driver, a 56-year-old Las Vegas woman, died at the scene, police said. She was the only occupant in her vehicle.

The SUV’s driver sustained minor injuries as did Gonzalez, who was treated at University Medical Center before being booked into the Clark County Detention Center.

A March 2016 incident left Gonzalez facing counts of DUI, drug use battery and a moving violation, Las Vegas Justice Court records show. She was found guilty of DUI and the rest of the charges were dropped.

The case was closed about two years later after Gonzalez completed requirements, including a visit to a coroner’s office, court logs show.
