A sign welcomes travelers at McCarran International Airport.

Some concourses at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas will close amid the decline of passenger activity due to COVID-19, officials announced today.

“McCarran officials are continually evaluating the airport’s infrastructure and operations to identify ways to maximize efficiencies and implement cost-savings measures,” spokesman Joseph Rajchel said. “With this in mind, the Department of Aviation has reduced its on-site workforce and is consolidating operations.”

The following areas are closed until further notice: The B concourse (all gates, retail and concessions), the C Annex Security Checkpoint and the E concourse (all gates, retail and concessions). Terminal 3 will remain open with limited services while the E concourse is closed.

Passengers can still access airline ticketing and check-in, the TSA checkpoint and baggage claim. Flights previously scheduled to depart from E concourse will now depart from D concourse. Signs will direct passengers where to go.

The A concourse will be accessible through the A/B checkpoint, and the C concourse will be accessible via the C/D checkpoint. The B concourse closure will restrict passengers from moving between the A and C concourses.

McCarran has also temporarily consolidated some of its parking. Terminal 1 short-term parking is now consolidated with long-term parking on level 1M. Terminal 3 short-term parking on level 1 will also be consolidated with long-term parking on levels 3 and 4. Economy lots and valet at both terminals will remain open.

“It is the goal of LAS to provide the safest and most efficient travel environment during this unprecedented time,” Rajchel said.

During the closure, McCarran’s custodial team will prioritize sanitation and increase the frequency of cleaning the open areas.

Last month, the airport’s air traffic control tower temporarily closed for a week after an employee in the tower tested positive for COVID-19. Earlier this week, two more employees tested positive for the virus.
