Overnight fire at Wetlands Park nearly contained

Updated Thursday, April 2, 2020 | 10:08 a.m.

A 10-acre fire that broke out late Wednesday at Wetlands Park is about 90 percent contained, according to the Clark County Fire Department.

The fire department received multiple calls about 11:15 p.m. of a fire at the park in the 5300 block of Broadbent Boulevard in the east valley.

The first-arriving crew reported the blaze was burning in an inaccessible area and requested help from the Bureau of Land Management, officials said.

A pedestrian bridge was lost in the fire, but crews were able to protect most of the parks mature trees, officials said. The fire was reported 90 percent contained as of about 7:20 a.m. today.

BLM and the Nevada Division of Forestry personnel will remain on scene today to mop up the fire area, officials said.

While walking paths remain open, the fire department recommended against using them because of the amount of smoke in the air.
