UNLV Medicine’s curbside coronavirus screening program got a boost late Monday when it received a new batch of 250 test kits that will extend testing through Thursday, the School of Medicine said.

Doctors running the service, which has tested more than 2,000 people for COVID-19 since March 23, had anticipated running out by the end of Tuesday. They continue to pursue more kits.

School of Medicine spokesman Paul Joncich said late Monday that over the coming days the operation will schedule those "already on our waiting list who had been previously screened and cleared for tests."

The drive-thru testing service has been highly popular, with its call center having received an average of 2,000 inquiries a day the week of March 23, Joncich said. Test results have been coming back within five to seven days.

The service, which is free regardless of a person’s insurance status, is only available by appointment. Test candidates can call 702-583-4408 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday for an eligibility screening.

As of April 6, 17,629 people had been tested for coronavirus in Nevada, with 1,953 having tested positive. Fifty-eight people in the state have died from coronavirus complications.
