A second worker at the Allegiant Stadium construction site has tested positive for COVID-19, but work continues on the project, according to the builder, Mortenson/McCarthy.

The latest worker tested positive Tuesday, five days after leaving the site due to symptoms of the coronavirus, officials said. He had not been in close contact with anyone else at the site, as crew members continue to observe safe distancing guidelines, officials said.

The worker is self-isolating, and the area where he was assigned has been shut down and sanitized, officials said. He can return to work when he has been medically cleared, officials said.

The first positive coronavirus case at the construction site was reported March 26. Since then, Mortenson/McCarthy has instituted protocols to avoid the spread of the virus, including reduced worker concentrations, emphasis on personal hygiene and social distancing, officials said.

Allegiant Stadium, just west of the Las Vegas Strip, will be home to the Las Vegas Raiders and the UNLV football team. It is set to open on Aug. 29, when UNLV hosts Cal.
