Passenger traffic at McCarran International Airport was down more than 50% year-over-year in March as the coronavirus pandemic has devastated the travel industry.

According to a monthly report released by Las Vegas airport officials today, just over 2 million passengers arrived at or departed from McCarran last month.

During March 2019, that number was upwards of 4.4 million, which means last month’s traffic was down 53%.

The international passenger count was down 58%.

In mid-March, Gov. Steve Sisolak ordered casinos statewide closed for 30 days, later extending the order through April 30.

Through the first three months of this year, passenger traffic at McCarran was down 15.5% compared to the same quarter in 2019.

Southwest Airlines and Delta Air Lines reported the biggest year-over-year passenger count drops in March.

Southwest serviced about 606,000 passengers through McCarran last month, down 62% from March 2019, while Delta had about 207,000 passengers, down 55%.
