The first month casinos reopened, Las Vegas visitor volume for June was just over 1 million, down 70% from the same month a year ago, tourism officials said.
A total of 1,065,100 people visited Las Vegas in June, compared to 3,607,400 in June 2019, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.
Gov. Steve Sisolak ordered casinos statewide closed in mid-March to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus. They were allowed to start reopening on June 4 under strict health and safety guidelines.
So far this year, visitor volume is about 9.7 million compared to 21.1 million for the same period last year, a decline of 54%, the authority reported.
Convention attendance went from 514,000 last June to nothing this year, as the state has banned gatherings of more than 50 people.
A number of groups have already canceled upcoming conventions and events, including the January 2021 CES technology show, one of the biggest annual gatherings.
June gaming revenue was about $441 million, down 51% from$906.7 million a year ago.
Hotel occupancy for the month was about 41%, about half of what it was a year ago. Revenue per available room was $42.56, off 61% from June 2019.
