Metro: Man hospitalized after being shot by officers

Metro Police officers responding to a disturbance in a south valley home this afternoon shot and wounded an armed man, Capt. Fred Haas said.

Gunshots erupted about 1:30 p.m. in the 10000 block of Rosalba Street, a neighborhood near Cactus Avenue and Valley View Boulevard, Haas said.

Someone called 911 to report an “unknown” trouble, and a dispatcher could hear arguing in the background, Haas said.

It wasn’t clear what happened immediately after officers arrived, but at least two of them shot at the man, who was holding a long gun just outside the doorway, Haas said.

The man was struck several times and taken to University Medical Center, where details of his condition were not provided. It wasn’t clear if he pointed the gun at police or pulled the trigger, Haas said. The investigation was ongoing.

This is the third officer involved shooting of the year for Metro.
