There’s no need for any qualifiers about the American Hockey League coming to the Las Vegas Valley.

The AHL Board of Governors approved the sale and relocation of the AHL franchise in San Antonio, Texas, to the Golden Knights, who will move the team to Henderson for the next season.

The team, whose new name has yet to be announced, will play its home games at Orleans Arena while a permanent area is built at the site of Henderson Pavilion.

The team will practice and be headquartered at Lifeguard Arena, which is under construction in downtown Henderson.

“It’s official,” Golden Knights Chairman and CEO Bill Foley said in a statement. “AHL hockey is coming to our great city. We can’t wait to drop the puck this fall.”

The team said it has received more than 7,000 season ticket deposits. Orleans Arena has a capacity of just under 8,000 for hockey, and the new arena is expected to hold about 6,000.

The Golden Knights announced on Feb. 6 they had entered into an agreement to purchase the San Antonio Rampage from Spurs Sports and Entertainment with the intent to move it to the Las Vegas valley, pending board approval.
