Letter to the editor:

Be angry when truth is hidden

We identify with the display of anger by Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, over not receiving facts germane to the White House briefing regarding the reasons the president ordered the killing of an Iranian general. It’s impossible to make an accurate decision without having facts to base it on. We applaud the senator for speaking out.

Lee should also be aware that he has an equally important stand to make with regards to the upcoming impeachment trial. It will be impossible for him to make a decision on that trial without facts as well. For that reason, he must insist that witnesses subpoenaed by the House of Representatives be able testify at the trial.

It’s the same situation. It’s the same transgression that caused his explosion of anger after the briefing. It’s the exact same legal stand and the exact same moral stand. He must renounce with equal passion any attempt to conduct a trial without witnesses or supporting evidence.

For Lee to join Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell in blocking subpoenaed witnesses is hypocritical. We hope he sees the logic of that reasoning, and the political dirtiness of following in McConnell’s footsteps.
