Letter to the editor:

Farm bailout is costly to nation

According to the Environmental Working Group, 92% of the United States’ farms are considered small farms, and only about 32% of President Donald Trump’s farm bailout money has gone to these small farmers.

The farm bailout has now exceeded the amount lent to the auto industry, which saved General Motors, Chrysler and others, which have paid back most of those loans.

Some small farmers have received as little as $5 of the president’s bailout money, while the loss in farm product sales in Iowa alone exceeds $2 billion. Many are filing for bankruptcy. This is all the result of the president’s disastrous farm tariff policy that he keeps claiming, at political rallies, is such a tremendous thing.

This bailout has no requirement for payback to the treasury. Let’s straighten this mess out. Come out and perform your patriotic duty to vote in the next election. Your vote counts.
