Nevada veteran helps save man from drowning in Utah reservoir

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — A retired veteran and former state trooper from Nevada helped prevent a man from drowning in a Utah reservoir, a park official said.

The veteran pulled the man from the water at Sand Hollow Reservoir in Southwest Utah Saturday, KUTV-TV reported.

Sand Hollow State Park manager Jonathan Hunt said a family was using a rope swing when a man, who was not identified, went into the water and did not resurface at the reservoir 17 miles (27 kilometers) east of St. George.

The veteran, who also was not identified, got the man to the shore and began CPR while bystanders called for help.

Park rangers who arrived at the scene took over CPR and revived the man, who was transported to a hospital and listed in stable condition.

Park rangers did not know why the swimmer could not resurface in the shallow water, Hunt said.

Hunt said the veteran appreciated the emergency training he received and was able to utilize in the moment.
