A man wanted on multiple violent crimes took his own life Saturday afternoon at the tail end of a valley-wide car pursuit with Metro officers, Lt. Ken Nogle said.

Officers attempted to stop the suspect near Las Vegas Boulevard South and Blue Diamond Road when a police cruiser tapped the back of the suspect’s vehicle in an attempt to shut off its engine, Nogle said.

However, the suspect grabbed a gun and shot himself around the same time, Nogle said. He was declared dead at a hospital.

His identity wasn’t revealed, but Nogle said he was wanted on multiple felony crimes, some which included the use of a gun.

Around 2:45 p.m., detectives searching for the suspect spotted him near Durango Drive and Cheyenne Avenue, Nogle said. When they tried stopping him, he sped off, launching a car pursuit that extended multiple Metro jurisdictions.

He was ultimately stopped on Las Vegas Boulevard and Windmill Lane, near where the street turns into Blue Diamond, Nogle said.

Other law enforcement agencies assisted in the chase, but weren’t directly involved with it, Nogle said.

The decedent will be identified by the Clark County Coroner’s Office after his family is notified.

Additional details were not disclosed.
