The Senate’s majority leader and his compliant cohorts are treating racist thoughts from staunch segregationists of the past as relevant advisement in guiding their actions today.
They vowed to make the first Black president a one-term president; this failed. They refused to consider his Supreme Court nominee. They undermined his health plan. They faulted him for saving the auto industry, and chose not to cooperate with him on bills that would have been good for the country.
They did all this because they did not want the Black president to be successful. However, most senators are supportive of the current white president, despite all his faults and failures to do what’s right for our country.
Racism leads senators to support the white president’s efforts to do the wrong things, and they take action to stop him. It’s time to bring more light — truth — into the chamber, removing racism and some of these senators too.
