The Mountain West released its preseason All-Conference teams on Wednesday, and running back Charles Williams was the only UNLV player to earn a spot.

Boise State led the way with three offensive players and four defensive players chosen to the All-MWC teams. San Diego State also placed four players on the defensive team.

Williams’ selection is well-deserved, coming off a 2019 campaign that ended with him being named to the 2019 All-MWC squad..

Williams took over as UNLV’s primary ball-carrier last year and delivered in a big way, as the Fresno native carried 212 times for 1,257 yards and 11 touchdowns. He averaged 5.9 yards per carry and recorded six games of more than 100 rushing yards.

The fifth-year senior is poised for a big 2020 season (assuming college football is played this year), as first-year head coach Marcus Arroyo aims to breathe life into the offense. Williams himself is excited to line up in the new-look attack.

The defensive side of the ball doesn’t look as promising for UNLV, which had no defenders chosen for preseason All-MWC honors. Last year, opponents averaged 6.4 yards per play against UNLV, which ranked 113th out of 130 teams.

On Tuesday, the league’s preseason poll projected UNLV to finish last in the West Division.
