County OKs grants to help businesses hurt by coronavirus

Clark County commissioners today approved using more than $19 million in federal funds to help businesses hurt by the coronavirus shutdown pay rent, utilities and payrolls.

The money will be used to establish three programs that will grant businesses up to $10,000.

The money can also be used to make virus-related improvements such as additional hand-washing stations, no-touch doors and walk-up windows.

“Some small businesses have been hit especially hard by the coronavirus,” Commissioner Justin Jones said. “These programs will help local businesses stabilize their finances and stay open.”

Gov. Steve Sisolak in mid-March ordered nonessential businesses statewide closed to help slow the spread of the virus. They are now being allowed to reopen in phases.

To qualify for the grants, businesses must be located in Clark County, have a local business license and no more than 20 employees. These grant programs are not available to businesses within Las Vegas city limits or any jurisdiction that received its own coronavirus relief funds.
