Room lights spell out “Hope Shines Bright” at the Wynn on the Las Vegas Strip Wednesday, April 22, 2020.

Wynn Resorts will reopen its two Las Vegas properties a few hours later than planned on Thursday out of precaution following violent George Floyd protests over the past few days on the Las Vegas Strip.

Company spokesman Michael Weaver said Wynn Las Vegas and Encore will open at 10 a.m. Thursday instead of the earlier planned time of 12:01 a.m. The properties are returning to operation after more than two months of closures because of coronavirus.

“We believe it is in the best interest of our guests and employees to move our reopening time,” Weaver said in an email.

El Cortez in downtown has also altered its reopening time, moving it from 12:01 a.m. to 8 a.m.

There were two separate shootings on Las Vegas Boulevard during Monday’s protest, including a Metro Police officer being shot. The officer, 29-year-old Shay Mikalonis, is on life support.
