Weekend Rewind: Bob Saget, Sofia Vergara, Debbie Gibson and more

Sofia Vergara, Manolo Gonzalez Vergara and Debbie Gibson at On the Record.

I spent my second straight Friday night at Encore Theater taking in an incredible musical performance. Last week it was Sarah McLachlan, the singer and songwriter who created the iconic Lillith Fair concert tour and some of the most memorable and emotional ballads of her era. Telling stories between playing guitar and piano and singing unique arrangements of her hits “Sweet Surrender,” “Adia” and “Possession,” she entertained effortlessly and her voice was impeccable. And this weekend, it was time for Harry Connick Jr. to return to the Wynn stage, a venue that he raved about during the show. That’s a good sign that he’ll be back here soon because he’s a natural fit for Las Vegas with his Sinatra-esque swagger and endless musicality. He started Friday night’s show in the middle, already humming and introducing his talented seven-piece jazz band in the first song. Connick’s current tour is a celebration of his favorite composer, Cole Porter, and his curation and execution of those classics was a revelation. If this show comes back to Vegas, you can’t miss it.

Walking on the Strip to Wynn Friday night to see the show, I happened upon comedian Bob Saget and his wife, Kelly Rizzo, heading in the other direction. Turns out they had just dined at La Cave Wine & Food Hideaway, a great start to a night out in Vegas. Did I bother them? I did not.

Actor couple Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello took over the town this weekend, starting with a red carpet event launching Vergara’s son Manolo Gonzalez Vergara’s collaboration with NoMad Las Vegas on the new VIP dog program at the posh hotel at Park MGM. His Canini by Baguette brand of pooch products is spotlighted in the pet program that was launched Friday and the three stars hit the club for the official afterparty at On the Record Saturday night. There they bumped into singer Debbie Gibson, a local resident and fellow dog lover; I recently made the acquaintance of her two Dachshunds. The Vergara group also watched “O” and dined at Mayfair Supper Club at Bellagio Saturday.

Rapper and producer French Montana had dinner with friends at Lavo at Palazzo Thursday night before visiting Tao Nightclub next door at the Venetian’s Grand Canal Shoppes.
