First case of coronavirus reported in Nye County

A Beatty resident was the first person to presumptively test positive for COVID-19 in Nye County, officials announced late Wednesday.

The patient, only described as a man in his 60s, was in self-isolation at home in the rural Nevada town about 120 miles northwest of Las Vegas, officials said. More than 80 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed statewide, including one death in Clark County.

Nye County Emergency Management was told about the Beatty case on Wednesday night. Investigators were probing  the “source of the infection” by retracing the man’s movements over the past several weeks, officials said.

Nye County residents were instructed to follow Gov. Steve Sisolak’s “Stay Home for Nevada” recommendations of avoiding nonessential public interactions.
