Metro Police officer accused of marijuana trafficking

Following a monthslong investigation, a Metro Police officer and his brother-in-law were arrested Thursday on marijuana trafficking counts, authorities announced today.

Officer Jesus Najera, 34, who was hired by Metro in 2016, was jailed on three counts of conspiracy to violate the Uniformed Controlled Substances Act and one count each of trafficking of THC, trafficking of marijuana and possession of cocaine, police said.

His brother-in-law, Eduardo Garcia, 46, was also booked at the Clark County Detention Center and faces one count each of conspiracy to violate the Uniformed Controlled Substance Act, trafficking of marijuana, trafficking of THC, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, sale of marijuana and unlawful production and manufacture of the drug, police said.

Police did not provide further details. A copy of the criminal complaint was not immediately available.

Najera, who was assigned to Metro’s downtown Las Vegas substation, was placed on leave without pay following his arrest.

Both suspects remained at the Clark County Detention Center this afternoon. Najera’s bond was set at $30,000, and Garcia’s bond was set at $28,000, jail logs show.
