Station Casinos is laying off a “significant” number of employees and will delay reopening four valley properties after the coronavirus shutdown is lifted, according to a letter to employees.

There will also be layoffs at the company’s corporate headquarters, according to the letter from from CEO Frank Fertitta dated today.

Properties not scheduled to initially reopen are the Palms, Fiesta Henderson, Fiesta Rancho and Texas Station. The company did not explain why those resorts were selected to remain closed.

A company spokesman said reductions affect approximately 39% of its full-time workforce of about 14,000 people in the Las Vegas area.

“When we are permitted to reopen, we don’t know what business will look like, other than knowing that business levels will be lower as a result of this unprecedented crisis,” Fertitta said in the letter.

The company “tried to retain our entire team, but in the face of this continued uncertainty, we can no longer do so,” Fertitta said.

Station plans to initially open its Red Rock Resort, Green Valley Ranch Resort, Santa Fe Station, Boulder Station, Palace Station, Sunset Station and Wildfire properties, according to the letter.

No date has been set to resume operations.

When Station will reopen the other properties will depend on how business goes, the company said.

Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak said none of the state’s casinos — ordered closed March 17 to help curb the spread of the virus — will be allowed to reopen until mid-May at the earliest.

Full-time employees affected by the layoffs will receive pay through May 16 and medical and dental benefits through the end of September, the company said.

Employees not impacted by the layoffs will continue to receive regular pay and benefits through at least the end of this month before resuming work.
