Police: Mother questioned after 2 babies found dead

Updated Friday, Nov. 6, 2020 | 3:49 p.m.

Detectives were questioning a mother after her 1-year-old and 2-month-old babies were discovered dead today at a central Las Vegas apartment, according to Metro Police.

The father arrived home and found the children, who were not moving and cold to the touch, in the living room, Lt. Ray Spencer said.

Spencer said police were interviewing the mother, who was not named, and expected to file charges in the case.

Investigators hadn’t determined a motive, Spencer said.

Officers responded about 12:15 p.m. to the apartment in the 1000 block of Sierra Vista Drive, near Maryland Parkway and Sahara Avenue, Spencer said.

The officers rendered aid before medical personnel arrived and pronounced the children dead, according to police.

“You’re lying to yourself if you don’t say that this doesn’t affect you,” Spencer said.

Spencer said investigators didn't know how the older child died but had a “very good idea” what caused the injuries to the newborn. He did not elaborate.
