Boy, 14, shoots and kills friend during video game dispute

A 14-year-old boy is alleged to have shot and killed a 16-year-old boy during a fight over a video game in a northeast Las Vegas home, according to Metro Police.

The shooting was reported at 4:35 p.m. Thursday in the 7000 block of Canary Ivy Way, near Lake Mead Boulevard and Los Feliz Street.

A witness who saw the teenage suspect run from the scene helped officers locate him about 30 minutes later where he was hiding about a half-mile away from the crime scene, Lt. Ray Spencer said in a briefing broadcast online.

The victim died at the scene from a gunshot wound to the chest, Spencer said.

"That's a horrible scene to deal with," he said.

According to a preliminary investigation, the boys had gone over to a juvenile friend’s home to play a video game in an upstairs room said.

At some point, a gun was pulled out, a struggle ensued, and the 14-year-old opened fire, Spencer said. Investigators believe the suspect brought the gun with him, but an investigation about who it belongs to is ongoing, Spencer added.

“It’s a horrific scene when you have a 16-year-old and a 14-year-old, who are getting in a fight over a video game and a gun is produced,” Spencer said.

Clark County School District police and counselors had responded to the scene, where the family of the victim was “extremely emotional,” Spencer said.

The younger boy was to be booked on a count of murder. The victim will be named by the Clark County Coroner’s Office when his family members officially identify his remains.

Identifying information of juvenile suspects is seldomly released by officials.
