LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Diagnosis’ irony is inescapable

I do not want the president and/or first lady to suffer or die from this awful virus. I am not a cruel person, and I do not delight in other people’s pain.

Nonetheless, it is impossible to avoid the gigantic irony of their diagnosis. President Donald Trump’s dangerous and misguided downplaying of the virus, along with his dismissive attitude toward scientists’ opinions, led to needless tragedy for many Americans.

In addition, Trump’s bogus attempt to brand “no-mask” as some asinine symbol of macho strength flopped badly, put many at risk, and again led to tragedy.

His schoolyard bully debate tactic of poking fun at Joe Biden for wearing a large mask has boomeranged and made him look even more foolish.

Modeling “no-mask” while inviting thousands of supporters to jam into tight spaces at rallies was selfish, grandiose and stupid.

Trump’s blind narcissism and big-mouthed proclamations (based on wishes, not science) seem like nothing but buffoonery now. I wish him and the first lady a swift recovery, but I want them out of the White House just as swiftly.
