I’ve been a registered Republican for 35 years, though I vote for the person and not the party. I am now ashamed at even having my name associated with this Republican Party.
The president and our state party flipped Nevadans the middle finger in Minden and Henderson by refusing to abide by our state’s COVID-19 rules. These apply to every assembly in confined spaces and have nothing to do with politics.
The president dumped all responsibility for COVID onto the states, then disrespects everything they try to do. Why can’t we stop these violators instead of issuing a measly $3,000 fine after the fact? How about making the organizers who so arrogantly and ignorantly flaunted the rules pay for all the medical and funeral costs that can be attributed to those fools who proudly packed in like sardines without masks? They spewed all over each other, risking the spread of the coronavirus within their own ranks and the possibility of bringing it back to the rest of us.
And how do we even begin to quantify the cost of noncompliance on all the local unemployed whose jobs may not return until the middle of next year, if ever?
This is not a Republican vs. Democratic fight. It is a battle for our families’ safety and jobs. And if you personally haven’t been affected, how fortunate for you. My family is, and continues to suffer. Hundreds of thousands of other Nevadans are struggling. Maybe, just maybe, these ostriches could pull their heads out and muster some compassion for others.
