Motorcyclist killed in Virginia City may have been going too fast

VIRGINIA CITY — The Nevada Highway Patrol says a preliminary investigation into a fatal motorcycle crash at Virginia City indicates the motorcyclist may have been going too fast when he failed to negotiate a curve and was ejected from the cycle on the edge of the tourist town.

The patrol identified the victim of Sunday’s single-vehicle crash as 25-year-old Anthony Pizarro of Fernley.

He was flown by helicopter to a local hospital where he later died.

The patrol said Thursday a preliminary investigation shows Pizarro was traveling northbound on State Route 341 at a high rate of speed as he approached a sharp left-hand curve at D Street, applied heavy braking and entered a locked wheel skid on a black 2017 Harley-Davidson.

The cycle left the roadway and he was ejected as it overturned down an embankment.

The patrol is continuing to investigate the official cause of the accident.
