1 dead, 2 injured in Las Vegas Strip shooting

Updated Sunday, April 25, 2021 | 5:55 p.m.

A man was slain and two others were injured on the Strip after an altercation escalated into gunfire and a foot chase down Las Vegas Boulevard early this morning, according to Metro Police.

The suspected gunman, who was in possession of the alleged murder weapon, was promptly taken into custody by responding patrol officers, Lt. Ray Spencer said.

The first gunshot blasted about 3 a.m. outside a convenience store near the Harmon Avenue intersection.

A group of people were in a confrontation when a man pulled out a gun and fatally wounded a man, Spencer said.

The alleged shooter then took off on foot and was chased by two men down Las Vegas Boulevard, Spencer said.

But one of them grabbed something — possibly a rock — and chucked it at the gunman’s head, striking him, Spencer said.

That’s when he turned around and fired three more rounds, hitting a man in the leg, said Spencer, noting that a ricochet shot hit a third man.

Officers, who arrived immediately, found the suspect at a nearby motel, Spencer said.

The victim who was shot in a leg was being treated at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center for an injury not deemed life-threatening, Spencer said. The victim hit by the ricochet bullet was treated and released at the scene.

The suspect is a Las Vegas resident while at least one of the victims is an out-of-towner, Spencer said. It wasn’t clear if they knew each other, or why they were fighting.

He was identified this afternoon as Malik Justice Arle Frost, 25, according to Las Vegas Justice Court logs. He was being held at the Clark County Detention Center on one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder.
