Police: 2 women dead in apparent murder-suicide at Las Vegas resort

Metro Police are investigating what they believe to be a murder-suicide early Tuesday at the Palms Place near the Las Vegas Strip.

At approximately 3 p.m., police responded to a report of two women dead in a hotel room on West Flamingo Avenue, Metro Lt. Ray Spencer said at a news conference. Medical personnel arrived with police and determined both women were dead.

Spencer said the hotel guests had not yet checked out of the room. Security went to make contact with the occupants and were unable to enter the room due to the security lock being engaged.

Maintenance was requested and able to force entry into the room. That’s when two black females, believed to be in their mid-to-late 30s, were found on the bed, Spencer said. He said gunshot wounds are the likely cause of death.

Based on a note left in the room, the two were believed to be at least somewhat romantically involved, Spencer said.

Evidence leaves police to believe the case is a murder-suicide, although the matter is still under investigation. The two were not identified but are believed to be locals, Spencer said.

“We believe they are going to be locals from the information we’re getting,” Spencer said, speaking in front of Palms Place. “We’re still trying to positively identify both of them. We have some preliminary information that leads us to believe they are locals.”

Spencer spoke to reporters at 5:15 p.m. and added authorities believed the two had died within 12 hours of him speaking. One was last seen alive around 5 a.m. Police are working with hotel officials to go through security footage.

There were no reports of gunshots from anyone nearby, Spencer said.
