LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Socialism is often misunderstood

Almost everyone in Southern Nevada should stop using their faucets. Water in faucets derives from Lake Mead, which was created by a socialistic project, the Hoover Dam. The dam was dedicated by Franklin Roosevelt, arguably America’s most socialistic president.

We should also stop using toilets, as public sewer systems are socialistic. Similarly, all Americans should stop using socialistic libraries, public museums, national parks, interstate highways, the postal service, FAA-supported airports and FDIC-insured banks.

But the military is probably our largest socialistic entity. Deservedly, members of the military get socialistic housing, food or commissary benefits, health care, educational benefits in the GI bill, retirement and burials.

The Pentagon is a bloated agency. According to the 2020 Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, the U.S. military budget is 11 times larger than the Russian military budget.

Obviously, millions of Americans have a limited understanding of socialism. Many fail to make the basic distinction between totalitarian socialism and democratic socialism. In terms of caring for neighbors, democratic socialism and the Judeo-Christian value system have much in common.

Of course there have been evil socialistic regimes. But places with minimal socialistic services have names like Ethiopia, Afghanistan and the Amazon jungle.
